Ruth | Catone | Goulding

Ruth | Catone | Goulding partners with collectors in meaningful, lasting dialogue and provides the essential access, research, and expertise to build collections of enduring value.

We foreground our collectors’ passions, interests, objectives, and ambitions to frame their purposeful engagement with the art world. We are unencumbered by any other agenda or financial interest.

Access

Our collector relationships last decades. We’ve built a similarly deep and enduring network of colleagues and offering agents, including large multinational galleries, seasoned auction professionals, emerging gallerists, and discreet private dealers.

These decades-long collaborations—strengthened by our reputation as honest, thoughtful, and diligent colleagues—as well as our meticulous coverage of the global market, provide our collectors expansive, leveraged access in a competitive environment.

Research

Our unrivaled database of 90,000 privately offered artworks forms an exclusive proprietary dataset to contextualize the market beyond publicly accessible auction records. This market data, coupled with our in-house library, uniquely positions us to build the matrix of art historical and financial analysis essential for well-informed decisions on both the secondary and primary markets.

Expertise

Information lacks value unless coupled with the discernment to distinguish lasting importance from fleeting trends. Our expertise, sustained research, and trusted relationships cut through noise, hype, and distractions, enabling our collectors to make grounded decisions and significant acquisitions. We offer nuanced interpretation tailored to the interests and needs of our clients, as well as candid insights on the subjective, shifting, often opaque indicators of value in a volatile arena.

Integration

We work with clients to seamlessly embed the practice of collecting within their existing professional endeavors, personal relationships, and broader assets. Our strategic counsel bridges the gap between cultural engagement and other key activities in our clients’ lives to ensure their collections represent more than a series of transactions. Judgments about enduring value extend beyond considerations of financial worth to include philanthropic goals, trust and estate planning, private business ambitions, and existing commitments.

Management

Collections of enduring value require rigorous stewardship. We are a full-service advisory specializing in both the conceptual and technical aspects of collection building and management. Our team assists clients and their offices with the full complement of third-party resources necessary to protect, present, and maintain a collection’s value in perpetuity. These services include databasing, shipping, insurance, installation, storage, conservation and materials analysis, museum loans, disaster preparedness, legal affairs, and public relations.
